Taking it to a new level - of insight

Dette indlæg på dansk

Once again, more than a month went by, and I did not update the blog. We all know, what the road to hell is paved with, so I won't even start... On the upside, progress is being made on my journey!

I have gone out into the world, where I have friends, that want to help. There I have borrowed microphones and other hardware enabling me to make recordings of a sound quality, that i believe is worthy of being published further down the road. All of last week, I spent recording Choro no. 1 and the four first installments of the Suite Populaire Bresilienne - and then I took the weekend of, to spend time with my wife and son. The long summer break from teaching definitely has its advantages!

It is an exiting and educating process, to be your own recording tech and producer, while still trying to stay on top of the actual performance of the music. You learn an incredible lot, by listening to play-theurough upon play-through of the same movements with your most critical ear. You learn from experience the extent to which (and that is no small amount) the producer-side of it all, is a creative process also, having to make important choices constantly. And then there are the psychological aspects of the recording process, which is a whole world of its own. In the past, I have had someone behind a window coaching me, making sure I felt good about myself and my playing, even when it was all falling apart, but now I have only myself to give me encouragement - or fail to do so.

No video this week, but i did make a small sound-snack to show an early version of the sound i am going for.
